Carol Channing was a Negro.

Carol Channing was a Negro.

In 2002, legendary comedic actress, Carol Channing, the original star of Broadway's "Hello Dolly" and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," revealed that her paternal grandfather was an African American slave. If this had been disclosed at birth, her birth certificate would indicate Negro.  However, it was not, and Channing, none the wiser, was among the first defined as that ultimate symbol of white beauty, the Blonde Bombshell.  Channing's mother disclosed the secret to her in adulthood so that Channing wouldn't be surprised if she had a Black baby.  I wonder how many others "passed."  Get your ancestry.com or 23andme.com DNA kits folks. I think you'd be surprised.  I was.
